Despite last weeks sad events, I did make it to NYC for one day before being called back home to be with Papa.
Quick recap - I had 10 whole sunny yet windy hours to myself. Since I was too scared to tryout the subway on my first day, this is what I accomplished in one short day on foot:
~saw a glimpse of Good Morning America taping
~went to the "top of the Rock" at Rockefeller center
~saw radio city music hall
~walked 4 miles up 5th ave. (back through Central Park on the way back)
~visited the MET
~went in Trump Tower
~browsed around FAO Schwartz (and saw the "big" piano)
~almost got hit by a man on a bike who gave me the finger
~virtually got puked on by a St. Patties Day partier
~window shopped the garmet district
~got a good case of carsickness (and thought I was going to die) in a cab
~ate a hot dog from a vendor
~ate a piece of pizza from a deli
~wrapped up the day with dinner in Little Italy w/ Michael

At the end of the day, let's just say my feet were crying abuse and I have a new love/hate for St. Patties Day. When I look back on my quick trip, I realize I have nothing to show for it other than this fuzzy out of focus picture proving I actually was there.
My only purchase other than food was a toothbrush from a street vendor for $4. I always forget my toothbrush on vacation...
Thanks for all the ideas and tips you all gave me for what to do in NYC. I'm filing them away and fully plan on returning to the Big Apple in the future.

Sounds like you did just about as much as I did on my two day vacation to NYC. I have a picture that looks identical. Ha!

That looks like fun! Sorry your trip was cut short by such a tragic event. I don't make it to NYC nearly enough. I should make it more of a priority. It's only 2 hours away.
