I was talking to one of my best friends last week when she asked me if I started getting my hospital bag ready. My response "um...no." Although I have 25 days to go till my due date, she delivered 5 weeks early. With my track record, I plan on seeing December before I see this little one's face.
She cautioned me that I might want to start getting things together "just in case".
She's probably right. The stars might align, I might win the lotto, and I could possibly go into labor before my due date rather than after. It could happen...
Thinking over her advice, I decided that I should start rounding up the necessary supplies. Off to Target I went, to waddle the isles picking up the basic supplies needed for those first few days. I bought a pack of newborn diapers (so cute, so tiny). I bought a box of the biggest maxi pads I could find (seriously not cute nor tiny). Oh, and I also picked up some breast pads and nipple cream (don't you wish cracked, bloody nipples were in your future)?
With that awkward trip to Target behind me; I can now focus on the things that really matter. Today - I'm working on my labor play list. The sounds I'll hear when I'm trying to accomplish the impossible.
I've gone through most of our music, but I need more suggestions.
I want calm, I want soothing. I want to be able to listen to it with the lights dimmed low. I want it to be happy, and I want to be able to hear myself think. Basically, I want the every kind of music my husband hates.
And no, I don't want any dance party Salt n' Pepa "Push it" remixes.
Lay it on me, I'm all ears.
Baby's listening - Push it real Good.

We have a MASSIVE playlist we called "Baby's Homecoming" that Mrs. Blonde should share with you. It's a couple hours long or more and perfect tone! Of course...I built it so I'm a bit bias. -Mr. Blonde

I like to listen to acoustic guitar music when I'm trying to relax and tune everything else out.

I always thought that the kodo drummers might be good labor music. Here are some samples I found on youtube. They are more energizing then relaxing though.

I actually listened to my running music while I was in labor. I needed music to pump me up and give me energy, so I am probably no help in this area. ;)

Oh my gosh. I am going to actually give this some thought, because of course now all I can think about are completely sarcastic song choices. I have an awesome chill out mix on my iPod that's titled "Hawaii." I'm not sure why, because I haven't been to Hawaii since iPods were invented. Anyways, that's coming atcha tomorrow.
Now I need to get Salt n Pepa out of my head. THANKS FOR THAT.

Wow, we are only 5 days apart with our due dates! I did the waddle shop recently, too, and bought all the same stuff.
I haven't really given any thought to music for the big day. Will probably just bring my iPod and see what I feel like.

I don't have any music suggestions, but I want to tell you that nursing my third was absolutely easy and almost - dare I say it - pleasant. I hope it's that way for you, too!

I agree with the Yael Naim suggestion. I also vote for Brandi Carlile, her latest album (do we call them that anymore?) was great. I just listened to it this afternoon and really enjoyed it

I had a few cd's wtih guitar and piano music. I didn't think I could handle any person singing. Well, as it so happened, I could't stand any of it and just had my sound soother with ocean waves playing. I love the beach and found it was the only thing that relaxed me and didn't annoy me.

When the time came for the major pain of my labor with Kate a few weeks ago, I couldn't stand any noise (I nearly threw my husband's phone across the room when it beeped for an incoming email). However, some good, distracting music may help the time pass through the beginning of labor. I don't have any suggestions other than E! News was a good distraction for me...

I just posted my labor mix a few weeks ago. Having just used it last week, I give it the contracting woman seal of approval.
